Pollution

Boracay Storm Drain

This is the Philippine Tourism Authority’s (PTA) Drainage System Project. LINC has been working with the local community to encourage the PTA to treat the water with the Electrocoagulation (EC) wastewater treatment technology.

path of untreated water

The orange pipe pumps the water from the drain and carries the untreated water to the blue pipe where it is pumped out directly into the water.

Storm Drain to Blue Pipe

floating pipe covered

Here, the drainage pipe is submerged – due to insufficient drainage, the internal parts of the island are subjected to severe flooding after typhoons and heavy rain storms.

inland flooding

open sewage

Open sewage

pipe draining onto beach, into the water

That blue pipe of untreated sewage draining directly out onto the beach, into the water where both locals and tourists develop illnesses, infected wounds, etc. because of the extremely polluted water/sand encountered here, and inland.

LINC is mobilizing from within the local community to raise awareness, funds and governmental advocacy to correct this problem by implementing an effective pollution and wastewater treatment system.
